Transformers: Platinum Edition Rise of Rodimus Prime (Galvatron, Rodimus Prime)

I have never done full reviews of either of these molds, so this is as good an opportunity as any.

Accessories/Pack-Ins

This set includes a Matrix. This Matrix has been used several times. It was originally included with the 2002 New Years Special Optimus Prime in Japan. It has been chromed this time and looks amazing. Included is also a poster of Galvatron and Rodimus Prime. This set is one of the most overpriced of all he overpriced Platinum Edition sets. It could have used a few more bonus items to offset that.

Galvatron

Vehicle Mode: Galvatron’s tank mode is pretty cool. Being a Deluxe toy, it is too small for a Galvatron toy. I would have loved to see this mold upsized to a Voyager. The color scheme on this one is pretty bad, in fact this is the worst version of this mold. They didn’t even paint his tank treads. For a Platinum Edition set, Hasbro really went cheap on this.

Robot Mode: He looks pretty good in robot mode. He’s a much darker purple than other releases of this mold. He does have a decent head sculpt and I like his arm cannon.

Rodimus Prime

Vehicle Mode: In case you don’t remember the Titanium Series, it was a line of non transforming die cast figures called Robot Masters and larger transforming toys called Cybertron Heroes. A few of those toys were really cool, but the line was cancelled before they released what would have been the best four toys in the series, Cosmos, Cybertron mode Bumblebee, Shockwave (as a gun!), and Arcee. This Rodimus Prime is a repaint of the Cybertron Heroes Rodimus Prime. His vehicle mode is not bad, and I love the metallic paint. It has design flaws, chief among them that his gun is supposed to store inside the back of his vehicle, but will fall out if you look at it funny.

Robot Mode: His robot mode is badly designed. His chest and head sticks out from his body. He looks fine looking at him straight on, but from the side he looks ridiculous.

Overall: This set is crazy overpriced, and digging up the Titanium Series Rodimus Prime proves that a new Rodimus Prime toy is way overdue. (They should have used Energon Deluxe Rodimus Prime.)
